About This Site
OUTeverywhere is working with police forces around the UK to distribute information about homophobic crimes to assist the police in seeking further information from the gay community. We are also working with support organisations and police forces to tackle homophobia and to empower lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people to report hate crime.
This website is dedicated to our work with these organisations for the benefit of everyone in the LGBT community. We want to make a stand against homophobia, as it is an issue that affects the lives of so many people—including members of our organisation—leaving physical and mental scars.
We aim to:
- Raise awareness of homophobia and homophobic hate crime throughout all areas of society, not only within the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) community
- Assist the police service to access hard-to-reach sections of the gay community and to gather information
- Help the police service to improve community safety
- Raise awareness of the options and ease of reporting a homophobic hate crime or incident
- Empower our members and the LGBT community to report offences
- Provide a means of communicating with members of the LGBT community who wouldn't otherwise have positive contact with the police
- Give OUTeverywhere's members, and the wider LGBT community, easy access to the facilities at their disposal
This project is created by the team of OUTeverywhere, a membership organisation that brings gay people together. We are not part of a police- or government-funded campaign; this website is funded by our members. We're representing the views of real people and trying to show that silence is not golden.
We're a socially responsible organisation that promotes the health and well-being of our members, giving them easy access to useful information and providing confidential channels of peer support. We felt that, in keeping with our values, we should be using more of our resources to try and improve the lives of our members and the wider LGBT community. Homophobia is a very real issue that concerns everyone within society. There was nothing quite like the Silence Is Not Golden project, so we created it.
Our 30,000 members represent a large number of the LGBT community. Hopefully this website will allow us to get the message of tackling homophobia to hard-to-reach people, particularly those who cannot be reached through the gay scene or the gay press.
OUTeverywhere is the UK's largest non-sexual social network for LGBT people. Whatever you're into, wherever you are, OUTeverywhere offers you the chance to get in touch with gay people who share your interests, people who like doing the same things you do, people on your wavelength. We're dedicated to connecting like-minded gay people and providing a safe and welcoming space. For more information about us, please visit www.outeverywhere.com.
